At Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs, we are passionate about creating a place where our children feel valued and respected. Our learning environment is a happy and fun place for our children and families to be a part of and most importantly, a home away from home. At Sparrow Carrum Downs we embrace the image of the child as a creative, confident and active learner. Our qualified, Early Childhood Educators use the Early Years Framework as a guide which is intended to support curriculum decision making to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transition to school. We aim to provide programs that are fun, educational, inclusive and reflective. The play based program is created based on the developmental needs, interests and experiences of all the children in our care.

Our Studios promote a natural environment which provides opportunities to teach children about caring for the world in which we live including:

Sandpits for sensory, symbolic and physical play
Plants to encourage birds, butterflies and other insects
Natural play spaces outdoors to encourage risk taking, fine motor development and imaginative play
Water play areas for sensory play
Trees which provide shade.
Rich in natural resources

Curriculum Overview

In line with the manner in which children learn in their early years, we provide a play-based curriculum that allows for sensory exploration in the belief that “there is nothing in the mind that was not first in the senses” (John Locke).

Drawing inspiration from pedagogical practices such as Reggio Emilia, we believe that children learn best in an environment that nurtures their curiosity and sense of wonder.

Increasing evidence shows that early childhood is the ‘window of opportunity’ for children to establish the beginnings of skills that will enable them to reach their full potential. It is our job, therefore, to create a safe, secure and supportive environment where through observation, interaction and careful planning, we can provide appropriate, stimulating and challenging developmental activity to meet the needs of every child in our care.

Our aim is not only to provide a sense of wellbeing and belonging for your children but for your families as well and create a community that is welcoming and inclusive where three voices are heard – not only the voice of the teacher but also the voice of the child and the voice of the family. You are your child’s first teacher and we trust we will work alongside each other to continue what you have already begun; not only preparing your child for school but also preparing your child for life.

With over 13 years of experience in Early childhood education, I am extremely proud to be leading a team of qualified educators at Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs. My aim is to deliver a unique experience to every child and family, one that is filled with learning, natural resources as well as endless creativity and imagination. I strive to create a warm, welcoming, and stimulating environment that encourages exploration, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. An environment that helps children feel safe and comfortable, allowing them to open to new experiences and ideas without fear of judgment and to take risks and explore their interests freely. At Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs, we value children’s contributions, honour their decision, and respect their voices because there is so very much that our little ones can teach us every single day. We ensure to empower children to become confident and capable individuals and create a nurturing space for mutual learning and growth.

I believe in collaboration partnerships with families and ensure to offer a variety of ways for them to be involved in and contribute to our service. I have a genuine desire to promote open and honest communication with all our families to help meet their needs.

What I enjoy most about my rewarding job is that not everyone has the privilege of making such a significant difference in the lives of others, so I cherish the meaningful role I play in shaping the children’s future and continue to nurture their potential and empower them to pursue their dreams.

My qualifications and experience:

Diploma of Early childhood Education and Care
Bachelor of Advertising and Public Relation.
Working towards Bachelor of Early childhood Education and Care.
Over 13 years of experience in Early childhood education and care.

Enrolment process

Our Early Learning Centre and Kindergarten in Carrum Downs promotes an open-door policy where families can visit and tour our service at any time during operational hours.

Once families have completed a tour, they will receive an enrolment pack with all necessary paperwork.

Once enrolled, the orientation process begins. The orientation process is an arrangement made between families and staff that supports the family’s needs.
